Project Interlace has evolved through various collaborations into a space for artistic exchange, where fashion, photography, dance, music, science, and textiles intersect. The diverse backgrounds of its collaborators have enabled a multifaceted exploration of lace and clothing, while raising the question of how different artistic and creative practices can come together through a shared image to shape a new, interconnected narrative.
In collaboration with Sasha Caicedo, a dancer, model, and artist from Miami, Florida I wanted to translate her distinctive physicality and performative language into the photographic space through M N K C L fashion designs, placing her against the monumental backdrop of New York City. Dance, fashion, lace, and performance are exploring movements, gestures, and the body as vehicles of visual expression. Within the photographic frame, garment and body merge to create a new form of storytelling.

Photography became a space for further exploration of the pattern and its relationship to the body, architecture, the urban environment, and light. By placing the original pieces within the specific context of New York, the project established a contrast between the pattern’s roots in Slovenian cultural heritage and its new life within a global urban environment.
Angelique Montes, an American cellist of Haitian descent, expanded her musical identity into the realm of visual expression through this project. The collaboration opened up a space for an interplay of music, visual art, identity, and performative expression. The photographic process thus became an interdisciplinary dialogue between sound, body, garment, and image.
Seyoung Hong’s creations focus on the exploration of materiality and the ways in which information is transmitted, transformed, and communicated through artistic and design processes. Above all, her work reflects an unstoppable feminine will and strength.

The collaboration thus brought together Slovenian cultural heritage, contemporary fashion design, and photography, establishing an international context for the reinterpretation of Idrija lace. New York provided an important setting for this research and subsequent creative production.
Together with scientist Viki Car, the lace was situated within a different context—that of technology, science, and industrial heritage. Its presence alongside the metal structure of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge established a connection between the intricate, handwoven structure of lace and the engineering logic of industrial architecture. Lace thus became more than a decorative element; it emerged as a form of material and technical heritage capable of establishing a dialogue with structures, technology, and history.
